An investigation has been launched following the death of an inmate at Low Moss prison.

Paul Dowds died at the facility in Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire, and was announced today by the Scottish Prison Service (SPS).

A Fatal Accident Inquiry will now be launched into the death of the 45-year-old.

Dowds was still due to stand trial before his death.

The news comes a week after the death of prisoner Paul McAdam at HMP Addiewell, in West Lothian.

In a statement, SPS said: "Paul Dowds, 45, an untried prisoner from HMP Low Moss has died.

"Police Scotland have been informed and the matter reported to the Procurator Fiscal.
