Probe launched after human remains found in Orkney

A police investigation has been launched after human remains were found on the Orkney Islands.

The grim discovery was made at Dingieshowe, a coastal area between the parishes of St Andrews and Deerness.

Officers from Police Scotland raced to the scene when the alarm was raised at around 1.30pm on Monday, December 14.

The beach area was closed off as police launched in investigation.

A Police Scotland spokesman told the Record: "At around 1.30pm, on Monday, December 14 police received a report that human remains had been discovered on the beach at Dingieshowe, Orkney. 

"Officers are in attendance and further examination and analysis will be carried out. 

"Enquiries are ongoing."
