Probe is launched over contamination in the River Leven

Scotland's environmental watchdog has launched a probe over complaints of pollution in the River Leven.

Concerned residents called in the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) after unusual oily effluent was spotted over the weekend at a stretch of the Leven, close to Bonhill Bridge.

A SEPA spokesman told the Lennox Herald: "SEPA has received complaints from members of the public over the weekend reporting odours and an oily sheen in the River Leven, West Dunbartonshire. SEPA officers are currently carrying out an investigation in order to trace the source of the pollution."
