It seems like Karoline Leavitt’s persistent efforts at spewing a hate narrative around undocumented immigrants residing in the United States have come to bite her in the back, or at least that is what some people on the internet believe. Others think the event was pre-planned by her to achieve the desired outcome.
On Wednesday, November 26, reports emerged from several news outlets that a relative of White House Press Secretary and Trump sympathiser, Karoline Leavitt, had been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at the South Louisiana ICE Processing Centre for overstaying her visa by 26 years. The individual was later identified as Bruna Caroline Ferreira, the mother of Karoline Leavitt’s nephew. When asked to comment on Bruna’s arrest, Karoline’s brother, Michael Leavitt, expressed concern over their son’s safety and well-being, noting that the boy shares a good bond with her mother. Karoline was also asked to comment on the issue by multiple media publications, including News 9, but she refused to do so, leaving space for people to theorise on her silence. And that is exactly what people on the internet are doing. They have a lot to say about the incident, including what they think could happen given that someone Karoline Leavitt personally knows has been arrested for doing something she has repeatedly publicly spoken against.
One person on X (formerly Twitter), upon learning that Karoline and Bruna haven’t spoken to each other in years, believes that the former was the one who called the authorities on the latter. They wrote:
“…It’s her brother’s ex, mother to Leavitt’s nephew. She was estranged from the family. If anything, Leavitt probably ratted her out.”
Another individual on the platform who was unaware of the circumstances surrounding the incident said:
“Awkward Thanksgiving. Maybe Leavitt will have more compassion now but I doubt it. It’s more likely she’ll get an exemption from Trump and carry on.”
