'Probably one of the best players I've ever faced!' The Chase's Anne Hegerty in awe of 'dark horse' player

The Chase's Anne Hegerty was left stunned after taking on an impressive player on Monday's episode.

Four new players were welcomed to the ITV show in a bid to win some cash.

Anne, also known as The Governess on the show, took on each one of the contestants, but only Barbara made it through to the final.

The 68-year-old from Bristol opened the show, and built up a staggering £7,000 in the cash builder.

After host Bradley Walsh asked who she'd like to take on, she replied: "I think I'd like to take on Anne.

"I like her sense of humour, and I've always had a soft spot for her since the Fanny Chmelar incident!"

"I've got a soft spot for her as well," Bradley came back, "It's a swamp!"

After being the only contestant to get to the final, Barbara flew through an impressive 17 questions.

Anne was full of praise for Barbara, and even admitted that she was 'one of the best players' she'd ever gone up against.

Fans were also in awe of Barbara's knowledge, with one saying: "Barbara's a bit of a dark horse! Well done! #TheChase."

Another said: "A promising start. Well done Barbara!"

"Take a bow Barbara love!" a third wrote.

"I'd be gutted if Barbara doesn't win this," another fan admitted.

Sadly, Barbara was caught by the Chaser and walked home empty handed.

The Chase continues weekdays on ITV at 5pm.
