A “probable tornado” was reported in north suburban Waukegan Tuesday.
A supercell storm was reported about 6:40 p.m near York House and Lewis Road., according to storm reports from the National Weather Service. The storm traveled east toward the lake. Commercial buildings and trees into the Lyons Woods Forest Preserve had minor damage, and a car was upturned.
Visual evidence suggests a tornado landed, creating a “very narrow” damage path for about two miles to the lakefront, the weather service said. Officials will make an official confirmation Wednesday.
One minor injury was reported, the weather service said.
Lone storm over far northern IL early Tue evening did become severe with swath of concentrated narrow wind damage in north Waukegan, likely a tornado. We are working with Lake County Emergency Mgmt into Wed to determine details.
