Protesters gathered once again at Emory University in Georgia's quad on Thursday, resuming demonstrations after more than two dozen individuals were arrested during pro-Palestinian protests the day before. The university confirmed that a confrontation between protesters and police outside the Candler School of Theology led to an escalation in law enforcement presence on campus.
According to the university's statement, a group of approximately 100 individuals left the quad and marched towards the Candler School of Theology. Some protesters reportedly cornered police officers against building doors and attempted to gain access to the premises. The situation intensified as video footage captured protesters using large posters to push against a line of officers who were positioned with their backs against the building doors. In response, officers pushed back against the posters, with one demonstrator even throwing their sign at the officers.
Despite the tense moments, the crowd eventually retreated back to the quad before dispersing. The incident highlighted the ongoing tensions surrounding the protests and the challenges faced by both demonstrators and law enforcement in maintaining order and ensuring safety during such events.
