Inverclyde council has said a pro-independence group has agreed to pay back a £10,000 covid business grant.
A spokesperson for the local authority also said a probe into the Yes Inverclyde funding had found “no evidence” of fraudulent activity, adding that the matter is now closed.
As revealed by the Record this week, the council said £10,000 had been paid to the pro-indy group in relation to the pandemic.
They also confirmed a complaint had been made and that it had been referred to its corporate fraud service for review.
A council spokesperson has now said: “The investigation is now concluded and there is no evidence of any fraudulent activity and no further action is being taken. Yes Inverclyde has agreed to pay the grant back and the matter is now closed by the council.
Scottish Tory MSP Murdo Fraser had previously described the grant as an “appalling and inexplicable misuse of public funds”.
