Pro golfer had to ferry himself out to an island in hilarious quest to play his ball

Joel Sjöholm found himself in a boat during the final round of the European Tour Hero Open on Sunday. He was in search of his ball for a recovery shot from a small island in the middle of a pond at Marriott Forest of Arden in Birmingham, England.

That’s right Sjöholm’s shot somehow landed on an island. And he was able to play his ball from that island. Because of the oddity of the events, the golf announcers clearly took a great deal of joy commentating his shaky journey in a dingy that shuttled him onto the island, where he had to move a few advertising signs out of his way to get to his ball.

In a tremendous upset, both Sjöholm and his ball stayed dry. Sjöholm made it safely back to land while his ball landed just a few feet off the green. Here’s a look at the whole sequence of events.

The recovery shot was actually pretty awesome. Sure, it wasn’t as accurate as he would have hoped. But the ground looked like it was tough to swing through, and he had the added pressure of the boat journey. It was an impressive display of persistence, balance and skill.
