Pro Football Focus’ Texans stats to know from Week 1

Following the Houston Texans’ 30-28 loss to the New Orleans Saints, those at Pro Football Focus have some stats to know about the team, specifically about wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and defensive end J.J. Watt.

In “20 PFF stats to know after Week 1 of the NFL regular season,” their Ben Cooper noted that Watt finally looked human and Hopkins’ reliable hands were absent.

First with Watt, as Cooper noted after his stat-less performance on Monday night.

“The last time Watt had just one pressure in a game was Week 2 against the Titans in 2018. The last time he had a game grade as low as 43.8 was all the way back in his rookie campaign (2011).”

It was certainly an off day for Watt. As for Hopkins, he finished the game with two touchdowns, but at what cost?

“As has been circulating on social media after the Texans’ loss to the New Orleans Saints, Hopkins had a handful of uncharacteristic drops. Three to be exact. That’s three more than he had all of last year. Perhaps it was just an off-night for the star wideout, who still managed a stat line of 111 yards and two touchdowns.”

Hopkins and Watt each have the opportunity to right their wrongs from Week 1 — in PFF’s eyes — against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.
