Pro Football Focus recognizes Reshad Jones as a top AFCE safety

Pro Football Focus has recognized Miami safety Reshad Jones as one of the best safeties in the AFC East this past season.

The recognition for Jones is impressive on multiple fronts. There are good safeties on every team in the AFC East, so landing as one of the top-5 should be applauded in itself.

Safeties who missed the top five in the division in 2018 include New England’s Patrick Chung and Buffalo’s Jordan Poyer.

But what makes Jones’ presence all the more impressive is the fact that Jones played this season with a torn labrum in his right shoulder, a difficult injury to compensate for when needing to hit, reach and extend as a defender.

Jones, who missed 2 games this season and turns 31-years old next week, underwent surgery for the injury this off-season. His status with the team may be up in the air, given his age and lofty salary through the year 2021.

Jones has four years remaining on his contract and is currently on the books for a surplus of $17M against the salary cap in 2019.

Regardless of what happens to Jones in 2019 and beyond, Dolphins fans should appreciate Jones’ toughness and effort in playing through injury at a high level this past season.
