Pro Football Focus names Russell Wilson MVP candidate for 2019

The Seattle Seahawks are still five weeks away from training camp and over two months away from the start of the 2019 season, but that hasn’t stopped analysts from making way-too-early predictions for league MVP.

Pro Football Focus jumped in on the fun, and — while he’s not the front-runner — they named Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson as an MVP candidate.

Wilson is behind Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who is coming off a ridiculous 50 touchdown season.

Veteran quarterbacks Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers are ahead of Wilson on the list as well, proving just how hard it is to win MVP in the NFL.

Wilson is coming off one of the most efficient seasons of his career, tossing a career-high 35 touchdowns and just seven interceptions despite dropping back to pass less often in Brian Schottenheimer’s run-heavy offensive attack.

The loss of Doug Baldwin will hurt Wilson — Baldwin was Wilson’s most reliable target — but the team drafted DK Metcalf and should get a healthy season from tight end Will Dissly. That should help ease the loss of Baldwin while also giving Wilson big red zone targets to help pad his touchdown numbers.
