Pro Football Focus names Aaron Rodgers a Giants killer

The New York Giants will face their arch nemesis in 2019 — at least according to popular analytics website, Pro Football Focus.

PFF recently broke down the “franchise killer” for all 32 NFL teams, which was defined as “the players who have played a minimum of 300 snaps against a given team and picked up the highest overall grade in the PFF era (2006-present).” And when it came to the Giants, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers got the nod.

NEW YORK GIANTS: QB AARON RODGERS, GREEN BAY PACKERS, 92.7 OVERALL GRADE

Rodgers’ appearance here against the Giants is one of the rare non-divisional team-killers, but his spot has been well earned. While his underlying stats — such as a 59.0% completion percentage — aren’t all that impressive, Rodgers’ overall performance stands second to none. He was particularly effective in the fourth quarter of one-score games, throwing six big-time throws compared to no turnover-worthy plays.

Although Rodgers does have a 3-1 career record against the Giants, he’s a curious choice given that Big Blue rolled into Green Bay in 2011 and trounced the 15-1 Packers while Rodgers was en route to his first league MVP award.

Objectively, a player like Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson might be the more appropriate choice — one we’re certain Giants fans would agree with — but the grades are what they are.

The Giants will host Rodgers and Packers in Week 13 of the 2019 regular season.
