A star-studded event headlined by actress and political activist Eva Longoria and aimed at mobilizing support from Latinas for president Joe Biden was canceled on Monday citing unspecified travel issues.

The Monday gathering in swing state Arizona was set to include a group of mothers and young Latinas and emphasize "that Latinas of all generations in Arizona will be critical in motivating their family members and their community to stop [former President] Trump, who has demonized Latinos throughout his political career and is pursuing an agenda that would be particularly devastating for Latino families" according to sources from the Biden campaign.

The event was the latest effort from the Biden campaign to reach out to Latinos in Arizona, one of a handful of swing states in which the current president still trails Donald Trump, according to the latest edition of a New York Times, Siena College and The Philadelphia Inquirer. Other efforts include the announcement, earlier today, that the largest Latino civil rights organization, UnidosUS Action Fund, will officially endorse President Biden on his re-election bid in Arizona.

Longoria is no stranger to the Democratic party and has become a vocal voice in favor of Latino rights in recent years. In 2012,she served as one of several national co-chairs of then-President Obama's reelection campaign and in 2016 she spoke out against Mike Pence, saying in a video released by the Democratic National Committee that Mexicans aren't "a thing," after the then-GOP vice presidential candidate had said Democrats "whipped out that Mexican thing again."
