Priyanka Chopra opens up about friend Meghan Markle, new sister-in-law Sophie Turner and marriage to Nick in new Elle cover

Priyanka Chopra stars on the August cover of Elle, where she opens up about close friend Meghan Markle and her new sister-in-law Sophie Turner.

The Hollywood actress jetted to the south of France last week for the wedding of Sophie Turner to her brother in law Joe Jonas.

“I’ve never had a sister" she says of her new family, "so it’s really nice to have Danielle and Sophie, and just inheriting the family by proxy. Sophie is super talented, super funny and we have the most fun when we go out together.”

Though Turner’s marriage to Joe Jonas has been in the news recently, Chopra also touched on her lavish 2018 wedding to Nick Jonas.

“We decided on the venue for our wedding in October and we got married on 1 December,” Chopra told Elle, “We had one-and-a-half months to plan, so we were just like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah, let’s get it.’ And suddenly we were like, ‘Ohhh god.’ It was very extravagant. Hopefully, you just do it once. So it’s fine.”

Lavish wedding aside, it looks like the two are enjoying being married so far. The pair were recently spotted on the River Seine in Paris – prior to Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner’s wedding – dancing and hugging. “It’s so different,” Chopra explained of her marriage to Nick Jonas, “I’d never realized having a husband and a boyfriend are such different things. When you say your vows, it’s like, this person is my family, and it’s the family I chose. There’s a weird responsibility to them. And a safety that comes from it. We are learning about each other every day.”

Chopra also touched on her years-long friendship with Meghan Markle. “‘Megs... she was always meant for big things,” Chopra says of the Duchess, “To be a change and be an important voice in doing that. It’s amazing that she found that calling and has the platform to be able to do it. By the time this comes out, she will have a baby [Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was born on 6 May] – it’s so amazing how lives change. I’m a big believer in taking charge of your life, but there’s got to be something bigger that puts us into the circumstances that we are put in. Destiny has a weird way of helping you to find your calling.”

Chopra has been working towards finding her own calling as a passionate advocate for diversity in Hollywood – from her collab with Obagi on its Skinclusion campaign and beyond – as well as women’s rights.

“My life’s dream is to be able to make or produce a movie that has a predominately South Asian cast,” Chopra told Elle, “I’m so glad that I’ve been put into the position where I have the ability to open those doors. I want to do it because no one was able to do it for me.”
