A PRIVATE Scottish island has hit the market for £350,000, just two years after being sold for half-a-million pounds.
Mullagrach Island is the northernmost island in the Summer Isles archipelago – a group of around 20 islands south of the Coigach peninsula – and can be reached by boat in around half an hour from the Ullapool or Old Dornie harbours.
The island is around 89 acres in size and boasts a coastline of rocky beaches, sheltered coves, caves, arches and cliffs, while its waters are rich in marine life, with seals, dolphins and sometimes minke whales to be seen.
On land, the island is home to a wide range of wildlife, including great skua, shags, fulmars and greylag geese, as well as otters.
To preserve the natural environment while offering a place to stay on the island, an eco cabin has been built, blending into the landscape with a heather-clad roof.
The interior of the cabin is equipped with a kitchen and dining area, a wood-burning stove and two box beds, while solar panels provide power and there is an outside composting WC.
The Summer Isles are a collection of around 20 islands that are mainly rocks and skerries within the Wester Ross Marine Protected Area.
They are popular for explorers who like to kayak or sail and there is also a local cruise boat that takes passengers around the islands during the summer months.
The largest of the islands, Tanera Mor, is around 800 acres and is the only one that is permanently inhabited.
