Private plane evacuated after being diverted to Manchester Airport for emergency landing

Passengers on a private plane were evacuated after the aircraft was diverted to Manchester Airport for an emergency landing.

The BAE Systems aircraft landed just before 7pm this evening (November 7) as a 'precautionary measure'.

The people on board were taken into the airport and 'processed through the terminal', an airport spokesperson said.

Two planes that were scheduled to land at Manchester had to be diverted to Liverpool.

Writing on Twitter, Hartger Visser wrote: " @manairport What happened on the runway? Lots of ground crew around a diverted plane."

A BAE Systems spokesperson said: “We can confirm that our Embraer aircraft made an emergency landing into Manchester airport as a precautionary measure just before 7pm this evening.

"All passengers and crew disembarked the aircraft safely.”

A spokeswoman for Manchester Airport said: "I can confirm that we diverted an aircraft run by a private operator as a precaution.

"All the passengers have been offloaded and processed through the terminal.

"It was a scheduled diversion."
