The pilot of a private jet carrying Jennifer Aniston and her friends to celebrate her 50th birthday plans was forced to make an emergency landing after a wheel apparently fell off during take-off.

Aniston and her pals, including former Friends co-star Courteney Cox, were flying to Cabo San Lucas in Mexico after taking off from LA International Airport on Friday morning.

But one of the plane wheels or tyres fell off as the flight took off.

The plane had to spend a few hours circling above the airport to burn its fuel as it would have been dangerous to land the plane with a full tank, delaying Aniston’s birthday trip.

It landed safely just after 2pm and the party boarded another aircraft to continue on their way to Mexico.

Sky News quoted a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman as saying: "A Gulfstream G4, tail number N729TY, lost a wheel or tyre while departing from LAX.

"The aircraft departed without incident and circled near Ontario International Airport (ONT) to burn fuel.

"The plane landed at ONT without incident, with the gear down, shortly after 2pm. The plane's planned destination was Cabo San Lucas."
