Private institutions want 40,000 per child from govt as reimbursement

PUNE: Private schools want the per-child reimbursement for RTE seats given by the state government to be increased to Rs 40,000.

Jagruti Dharmadhikari, advisor to Independent English Schools Association Maharashtra, said that they had calculated the salary grants for government schools and the students in entry-level classes and the non-infrastructural expense for each student which comes to Rs 40,000.

“If we add the midday meal, free uniform, and other expenses incurred by the government per child, the cost comes to Rs 90,000 per child per year. The state must provide Rs 40,000 per child as reimbursement,” she added.

Primary education director Dinkar Temkar said that there has been no discussion on revising the reimbursement from Rs 8,000 per child per year.

“Last year, we distributed Rs 150 crore. The pending amount will be cleared in phases. No school can say it sent a correct proposal and has not received a single rupee. Their data has a technical problem or is incomplete or documents are missing and hence the claims are rejected,” Temkar said.
