Pritchard shines, Doyle cool, Winchester strong - Sunderland 1-0 AFC Wimbledon player ratings

Sunderland bounced back from their defeat to Burton by picking up their third League One win of the season.

Carl Winchester's goal was enough to earn the Black Cats a 1-0 win over AFC Wimbledon.

But it could have been more as Lynden Gooch, Ross Stewart, Elliot Embleton and Alex Pritchard all had chances to put the home side ahead.

Winchester's goal in the second half came when he took aim from 30 yards out and his shot took a deflection to leave Tzanev no chance.

Here's how James Hunter rated the Sunderland players.

ANTHONY PATTERSON 6

A late inclusion after Burge picked up a knock, and kept a clean sheet on his league debut

CARL WINCHESTER 7

A strong performance at right-back, capped with the winning goal

TOM FLANAGAN 6

Had to be careful after picking up an early booking, but did well

CALLUM DOYLE 7

So cool and composed on the ball

DAN NEIL 7

Played left-back for most of the match and acquitted himself well

ELLIOT EMBLETON 7

Played in a deeper midfield role than normal but still got forward whenever he could

LUKE O'NIEN 7

Did the hard work alongside Embleton

LYNDEN GOOCH 7

Lively wide on the right, and brought a couple of good saves out of the keeper

ALEX PRITCHARD 8

Very creative in the number ten role on his first league start for the club, and almost scored in the second half

AIDEN McGEADY 6

Always a threat, but today his final ball was not as incisive as it can be

ROSS STEWART 7

Led the line well and caused Wimbledon problems from start to finish

SUBS

NATHAN BROADHEAD 6

For McGeady 71mins. Gave Wimbledon something different to think about in the final 20 minutes

DENNIS CIRKIN 6

For Pritchard 71mins. Brought some natural balance when he came on at left-back

BAILEY WRIGHT 6

For Embleton 82mins. Brought on late to allow the switch to a back three as Sunderland closed the game out

Not used: Burge, Alves, O'Brien, Hawkes
