Inmates are smashing 10 TVs a week at a single prison in furious bust-ups over what to watch.
Some cons spending long hours in two-man cells during lockdown smash the £125 sets if they don’t get their way.
One insider at at HMP Winchester, Hants, said: “People can get angry over the smallest of things.
"Some flip their lid over missing the soaps, while others are fuming at having to watch them.”
The huge damage bill was uncovered by the Independent Monitoring Board, which also revealed that 2,300 replacement kettles were needed in the past year.

A board report says: “Furniture within cells is a constant problem, partly because frustrated occupants regularly smash the contents.
“Each television costs the prison £124.93, and approximately 10 need replacing each week.
"During the time span of this report, over 450 televisions and 2,300 kettles for in-cell use were delivered to the prison, many of them to replace vandalised items.”

Any prisoners caught smashing TVs face sanctions imposed by the governor and have to do without some luxuries, usually for a few weeks.
Most are still allowed a radio during their punishment time.
