Prisoners 'popping out of jail to visit prostitutes while on day release'

Prisoners are reportedly using smuggled phones to arrange romps with local prostitutes while on day release.

The inmates at HMP Ford in West Sussex are said to be taking advantage of day release to hook up with escorts.

One sex worker, Nely, 22, told The Sun: “They want a service and we are willing to do it. They have needs.”

A Prison Inspectorate report found alcohol and drug problems at Ford.

A Prison Service spokesperson said: “All prisoners released on temporary licence must follow strict rules and will face punishment if they break them.”

“Anyone found to have broken the law while on temporary release can expect tough sanctions, including the possibility of more time behind bars.”

In August last year it was reported that Ford Prison is running out of cells with the prison operating at 99% capacity in July 2018.

The West Sussex facility has the capacity to hold 544 inmates.

There has been a renewed focus on prison policy after the Government took control of HMP Birmingham, which is set to return to government control.
