Prisoner with links to Merthyr Tydfil escapes while serving nine-year jail sentence

A prisoner with links to Merthyr Tydfil has escaped while serving a nine-year prison sentence.

Scott Davies, 28, was serving his time at Holleseley Bay Prison for robbery and false imprisonement.

Davies, who has links to Merthyr Tydfil, was reported missing at 6.50am on Tuesday, March 23 after a roll call was carried out and he could not be located.

An appeal from Suffolk Constabulary said: "Davies is described as white, 5ft 10ins tall, of medium build, with brown hair, blue eyes and an Irish accent. He also has tattoos on his neck, torso and right arm.

"Davies has links to Wednesbury in the West Midlands and Merthyr Tydfil in Wales."

Holleseley Bay Prison is a prison and young offender institution for men over 18 in Woodbridge, Suffolk.

It is a category D open prison which means inmates at the jail are allowed to spend time outside before their release.

This can be for daily visits in the local community, weekly with family or monthly when men can go home for up to four nights.

It is one of the lowest security prisons in the UK but has come under scrutiny in the past for the number of prisoners who have escaped.

Anyone who believes they have seen Scott Davies, or who has any information on his whereabouts, is asked to contact Suffolk Police on 101, quoting reference 40 of Tuesday 23 March.
