Prisoner now in custody after police van smash with car while child inside

A prisoner who was in a police van when it crashed into a family's Range Rover is now in custody.

The crash happened at the Junction of Great Homer Street and Wilbraham Street around 10.10am.

Two police officers, previously believed to be three, were taken to hospital but have now been discharged.

A third officer was checked over at the scene.

The prisoner was taken to hospital as a precaution for superficial injuries but Merseyside Police confirmed the person is now in custody.

In an update the force confirmed that a child and two women were inside the Range Rover when the crash happened.

A spokesman said: "The occupants of the Range Rover, three women and a child were uninjured."

Pictures show the front of the police carrier appears to have come into contact into the driver’s side of the Range Rover.

Officers from the Matrix Roads Policing team are appealing to anyone who witnessed this collision or who has any dashcam footage to DM @MerPolCC or call 101 quoting reference 335 of 13.08.20.
