Prisoner charged with murder over suspicious death inside prison

A prisoner has been charged with murder after the suspicious death of another man in custody at the Woodford Correctional Centre.

A 25-year-old man has been given a notice to appear at the Brisbane Magistrates Court on July 20 after a 37-year-old man was found dead at the prison on May 6.

The man's body was found in the centre's laundry and despite attempts to revive him, he was declared dead just before 4:00pm.

One day after the 37-year-old was found dead, another inmate at the centre also died in custody.

Queensland Corrective Services confirmed the second man's body was "found in a single occupancy cell with obvious injuries".

Investigators are preparing a report for the coroner into the death.

Authorities said that death, also a 37-year-old man, was considered non-suspicious but prompted the investigation that resulted in the murder charge.

It is not clear if the two deaths are related.

On May 3, another death in custody was recorded at the Wolston Correctional Centre at Wacol.

The 39-year-old man was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital on Sunday morning after what appeared to be a "self-harm incident".
