Prisoner, 32, found dead at HMP Liverpool

A 32-year-old inmate at HMP Liverpool has died suddenly.

Alan Johnston, 32, was found dead at the Walton prison on November 27 this week.

The ECHO was informed about Mr Johnston's death by a source, who does not want to be named.

The source claimed that the prisoner had been found dead in his cell at HMP Liverpool yesterday.

A spokesperson for the prison service has now confirmed the death of Mr Johnston and an independent investigation is underway by the Prisons Probation Ombudsman.

A Prison Service spokesperson said: “HMP Liverpool prisoner Alan Johnston died in prison on the 27th November 2019.

“As with all deaths in custody there will be an independent investigation by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.”
