Prison van carrying 'blue plague' drugs gang caught up in road rage rammy on way to court

A prison van transporting a notorious ‘blue plague’ drugs gang to court was involved in a road rage rammy.

The GeoAmey truck was transporting the prisoners to the High Court in Glasgow on Monday morning when it is understood to have clipped the wing mirror of a car on the Bellfield roundabout in Kilmarnock.

The six-cell prison van's driver was not permitted to stop while carrying cons and continued on its route, only for the raging driver of the car to pursue the truck on the A77.

Cops were then called to intercept the driver to let the security van complete its journey.

A police motorcyclist is understood to have pulled over the car and given the driver a ticking off for tailing the van.

A GEOAmey spokesman said: “Due to the nature of our work, the driver will not exit a vehicle following a minor road traffic incident but will instead contact the police for assistance.

“This is to maintain security of the escort and to protect the public.”

All five prisoners were delivered to court to be caged for a total of 19 years for their involvement in a drugs factory capable of churning out 130,000 pills.

Kyle Byrne, 29, George Stewart, 32, and John MacLeod, 23, admitted being involved in the supplying of Etizolam at a flat in Main Street, Dalry, between February 1 and March 26.

Co-accused Lee MacLeod, 26, admitted being concerned in the supply of the drug on March 26 and Paul Gaughan, 30, on March 23.

The Daily Record understands insurance details were eventually exchanged between the drivers of the car and the prison van.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police received a report of a minor road traffic collision on the Bellfield Roundabout at around 9.10am yesterday morning.

“Both vehicles carried on their journeys.”
