Prisoners at a jail near Glasgow have been banned from having visits both in-prison and virtually.

HMP Greenock has made the decision to suspend visits due to 'unforeseen circumstances'.

Prisoners will only be allowed legal appointments under the restrictions which are due to last until January 7.

A statement by the Scottish Prison Service outlines: "Due to unforeseen circumstances, in-person and virtual visits are temporarily suspended in HMP Greenock until January 7.

"Individuals in our care in HMP Greenock have been informed and future booking will be supported.
