A prison officer was hospitalised after being attacked by an inmate at a Scots jail.
Police were called to reports that a member of staff was assaulted after being set upon by the prisoner at HMP Cornton Vale, in Stirling, around 4pm on Friday, July 2.
Medics took the worker to hospital for treatment, but they have since been released.
Police Scotland and the Scottish Prison Service (SPS) confirmed the incident.
Neither parties disclosed details on the circumstances surrounding the assault, the nature of the staff member's injuries or their current medical conditon.
Police Scotland told the Record that the prisoner 'remains detained in Cornton Vale'.
A spokeswoman from the force told the Record: "Officers were made aware of an assault at Cornton Vale Prison, Stirling, on Friday, July 2, 2021 at around 4pm involving a prison officer and a prisoner.
"The prison officer attended hospital for treatment and has since been released.
"The prisoner remains detained in Cornton Vale.
"Enquiries are ongoing."
An SPS spokesperson told the Record: “I can confirm that an incident took place at Cornton Vale last week where a member of staff was assaulted.”
