Prison officer admits taking mobile phone and tobacco into HMP Lowdham Grange

A prison officer will be sentenced next month for bringing a mobile phone and tobacco into HMP Lowdham Grange.

Nathan Drury, who no longer works for the service, was convicted of bringing or conveying a prohibited article into prison when he appeared before magistrates in Nottingham on July 4.

Drury pleaded not guilty at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday, August 8, to possessing criminal property on March 9, 2018, namely cash knowing or suspecting it to represent the proceeds of crime.

Caroline Bradley, prosecuting, said he will be sentenced for allowing a mobile phone and tobacco to be taken into a prison.

The judge recorded a not guilty verdict on the other allegation and asked for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.

Digby Johnson, representing 25-year-old Drury, from Pontefract, asked for the adjournment for a pre-sentence report and for references to be gathered.

He said of his client: "He is 25 and without any convictions."

Drury was bailed to be sentenced on September 13.
