Prison death probe into man accused of murdering Glasgow mum Jennifer Morgan

A probe will be held into the death of a man accused of murdering a Glasgow mum.

Hugh Baird died in Barlinnie Prison a week before he was due to go on trial over the killing of Jennifer Morgan, who was stabbed to death at her home.

Her 11-year-old daughter discovered her body in a pool of blood when she arrived home from school.

Jennifer, 33, a native of Maryhill, had moved into her new flat in Kirkintilloch to start a new life just weeks before her death.

It was claimed that Baird, 40, waited outside in a car before following her inside and repeatedly stabbing her.

Neighbours spotted the little girl sitting on a wall alone crying following the grim discovery in April 2018.

Baird, also from Maryhill, was arrested days later and appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court charged with Jennifer's murder.

The Scottish Prison Service confirmed his death on October 18 2018, a week before he was due in the dock at the high court for trial. There were no suspicious circumstances.

Now a Fatal Accident Inquiry will be held into the circumstances of Baird's death, a formality under Scots law.

A preliminary hearing will take place at Glasgow Sheriff Court on April 14, four days before the second anniversary of Jennifer's death.
