Prison bosses throw Notting Hill-style carnival bash for inmates with limbo dancing

It was probably the first time in a prison where inmates were only too glad to take the rap.

And as well as being behind bars they found themselves under them too – during an afternoon of limbo dancing.

Jailbirds were overjoyed when prison bosses threw a Notting Hill-style carnival bash for them as part of a cultural project.

A report reveals “Nottingham Hill” went ahead at the Midland’s city’s Category B nick.

Around 1,000 inmates enjoyed a steel band, gospel rappers, limbo dancing, body popping and “authentic food”.

The knees-up last October was revealed in an inspection report by the Independent Monitoring Board prisons watchdog.

It hailed the event as a “particular highlight”.

A source said it took place to “encourage good behaviour and foster a sense of community”.

This year’s real Notting Hill Carnival was axed because of Covid-19.

A damning report on the jail two years ago found drugs and violence were rife.

And last year inmates were reported to have smoked pages of a Harry Potter book soaked in “zombie” drug Spice.
