Priscilla Presley says Lisa Marie’s death has ‘separated’ Elvis’ family

Priscilla Presley has spoken about the impact her daughter Lisa Marie’s death in 2023 has had on their family.

Lisa Marie, the only child of Priscilla and music legend Elvis, was 54 when she died from complications related to a weight loss surgery she had undergone years before.

Speaking at an event at Westgate Las Vegas over the weekend, Priscilla, 80, admitted that the death of her daughter has “separated” her family.

“Because, you know, we would get together and have meals and, of course, you know, have family,” she said, according to US Weekly.

Referring to Lisa Marie’s youngest daughters, Finley and Harper, whom she shared with her fourth husband, Michael Lockwood, Priscilla said: “[The] girls are 18 now, the twins. So they have their boyfriends and, you know, do their thing. It’s been, even though we’re close — what?”

Priscilla was joined by her son, Navarone Garibaldi, 39, whom she shares with her ex, Marco Garibaldi.

“I would disagree,” Garibaldi said, arguing that the 2020 suicide of Lisa Marie’s son, Benjamin Keough, was the “first thing that separated” the family.

“When you would think that would be something that should bring everybody together, that somehow separated us further, because everybody grieves in different ways, and everybody felt, you know, put blame on somebody in different ways, and just felt different ways about it,” he explained.

“Somehow, that separated us further. … Now, after my sister died, I feel like now we’re actually coming closer together, and I feel like we’re all letting go of those feelings.”

In addition to Benjamin, Lisa Marie shared daughter Riley, 36, with ex-husband Danny Keough.

Priscilla has previously opened up about the loss of Lisa Marie, calling it “the second saddest day of my life, other than losing Elvis.”

“It took a long time to come to terms with the fact that Lisa was gone,” she told People last September ahead of the release of her memoir, Softly, as I Leave You: Life After Elvis.

In the months following Lisa Marie’s death, Riley and Priscilla were involved in a legal dispute over her estate. Riley was ultimately named as the sole trustee.

In September 2025, a letter Riley wrote to Priscilla was made public as part of the latter’s ongoing, multi-year lawsuit against her former business partners.

“Unfortunately Nona as you are taking me to court I am being forced to defend my mother’s wishes legally and publicly which would not have been my choice,” Riley wrote, according to the filing. “It is really hurtful that after years of me trying to resolve your and my mother’s broken relationship and restore our family, you are taking me, of all people, to court.”

Despite the legal drama, Priscilla later insisted that she never feuded with her granddaughter.

“There’s been so much that’s untruthful out there — things like Elvis is still alive and hidden somewhere, all this stuff about how the family is battling,” she said to People. “I want to clear some things up.

“Riley and I have never had a problem,” she added, further addressing rumors of her relationship with Lisa Marie.

“I know there’s a lot out there that I did this to Lisa, I did that to Lisa,” Priscilla said. “There’s a lot of people who didn’t want Lisa and I to be close. We were very close. Lisa could be hard-headed, but so could I sometimes. We had a lot of good times together.”
