Principal and teacher in court for fraud

A school principal who allegedly misused a corporate credit card and dishonestly obtained money relating to school activities has appeared in a Brisbane court.

John Leonard Webster, 59, is facing a raft of fraud charges, while his 56-year-old wife Suzette Maree Webster, a teacher, is also charged.

The couple - who both worked at Wellers Hill State School in the Brisbane suburb of Tarragindi - appeared separately in court on Thursday.

John Webster was first charged in September by the state's corruption watchdog with 34 counts of fraud and one of misconduct in relation to public office.

He allegedly misused his education department-issued credit card and dishonestly obtained money relating to school activities, the Crime and Corruption Commission said in a statement when he was charged.

It is understood the value of the alleged fraud is just under $30,000.

Two charges relate to John Webster allegedly dishonestly gaining benefit for two other people, according to court documents.

A further 14 counts of fraud were brought in October charging the principal and his wife jointly.

The CCC said at the time it would be alleged the couple "fraudulently accessed leave entitlements".

It is understood the charges relate to sick leave.

It is alleged Suzette Webster gained the benefit for each of the 14 charges, according to the court files.

John Webster's matter was adjourned for mention in Brisbane Magistrates Court on January 27.

Suzette Webster is set to have her matter mentioned in the same court on February 24.

They are both on bail on their own undertaking.

John Webster's bail conditions include him not communicating with nearly 70 people and not going onto the Wellers Hill State School property or any other education department facility without a CCC investigator or police officer, according to court documents.
