The heir to one of Europe’s thrones is coming to study in Wales. Princess Leonor de Borbon, 15, the elder daughter of King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain, will attend Atlantic College at St Donat’s Castle in the Vale of Glamorgan.
The two year course, being funded by her parents, will cost £67,000.
Principal of the college, Peter T. Howe, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming HRH Princess Leonor of Asturias as one of the Spanish nominees to attend UWC Atlantic in 2021.
“We hope very much she enjoys her time in Wales and have little doubt she will thrive as a member of our amazing community.”
The 15-year-old princess applied for a place through the United World Colleges (UWC)’s Spanish committee and went through the selection process, part of which is conducted anonymously.
Jens Waltermann, executive director of UWC International, added: “The princess will join 4,500 other students from 155 countries, and from a diverse range of backgrounds, who will be studying at one of our 18 schools.
“It doesn’t matter where a student comes from to access a UWC education, with over 75% of all students receiving partial or full scholarships.
“What matters is their potential to contribute towards building a better and more just future for all.”

Atlantic College is a residential sixth form college for students aged 15-19 from around the world, and has a history of attracting foreign royals.
Its president is Queen Noor of Jordan and one of her daughters graduated from the institution.
In 2013 two Pakistani teenagers shot by the Taliban while travelling with their friend Malala Yousafzai - now a Nobel Prize laureate - were given scholarships to study there.
The college, which has 350 students, allows them to study towards the International Baccalaureate, which is combined with co-curricular community service activities.
