Princess Switch 2 fans have minds blown by Christmas Prince Easter egg in Netflix film

If you love nothing more than curling up on the sofa to watch a Christmas movie, then you've probably already seen Netflix's latest offering, The Princess Switch: Switched Again, or The Princess Switch 2 as some are calling it.

The Netflix original stars Vanessa Hudgens as not one, not two, but THREE different characters - Duchess Margaret, Princess Stacy and Lady Fiona Pembroke.

In this instalment, Margaret unexpectedly inherits the throne of Belgravia, causing chaos to ensue.

Fans on social media have been sharing high praise for the movie, even going as far as to suggest Hudgens should win the Best Actress Oscar for her various performances.

But while many were focused on the acting, eagle-eyed viewers couldn't help but notice a sneaky Easter egg Netflix planted towards the end of the film.

***Spoilers for The Princess Switch: Switched Again ahead***

The King and Queen of Aldovia had a cameo (Netflix)

As guests gather to celebrate Margaret's coronation, amongst the crowd the camera shows some very familiar faces from the Netflix cinematic universe.

Queen Amber, King Richard and their daughter Princess Elleri of Aldovia are there to cheer Margaret on.

These three are characters from A Christmas Prince and fans were stunned to see them make a cameo appearance in The Princess Switch sequel.

This is because in the first film, Kevin and Margaret (while she's pretending to be Stacy) scrolled through Netflix in search of a Christmas movie to watch together and he suggested they go for A Christmas Prince.

Taking to Twitter, people shared their confusion, claiming that Netflix was 'messing with their minds'.

One person wrote: "How dare Netflix screw with my mind by making the couple from A CHRISTMAS PRINCE show up in THE PRINCESS SWITCH 2 even though they watched A CHRISTMAS PRINCE on Netflix in the first THE PRINCESS SWITCH???"

Another agreed, tweeting: "How DARE Netflix have the royal couple from A Christmas Prince make a cameo in The Princess Switch 2 when the Vanessa Hudgens character in Princess Switch 1 watched A CHRISTMAS PRINCE ON NETFLIX."

A different user wondered if, in The Princess Switch movies, A Christmas Prince was meant to be a biographical film or documentary, instead of a cute Christmas flick.

They wrote: "In Princess Switch 2, Amber & Richard attend Margaret's coronation. Meaning they're not just fictional movie characters! WHICH BEGS AN IMPORTANT QUESTION - within the Netflix holiday cinematic universe, is A Christmas Prince an authorized biopic about the Aldovian royal family??"

So what exactly is going on here?

Netflix has an answer for our curious question, which is that all of their holiday movies made by MPCA are connected in some way.

They've dubbed the films the 'Holiday Movie Universe', which Netflix describes as "an interconnected world of eight films (and counting) where anyone could become a princess and your soulmate may be hiding in plain sight — or the past!"

Amanda Philips Atkins, EVP at MPCA further explained: "It felt like a natural fit to show one of our other films available on Netflix. That one seed of an idea soon turned into a fun opportunity to tie the various worlds together with small Easter eggs from movie to movie."

The titles included in this universe are the likes of The Knight Before Christmas, The Princess Switch films, The Holiday Calendar, Christmas Inheritance, A Christmas Prince movies, and Holiday in the Wild.

So, with all that in mind, given that The Knight Before Christmas also stars Vanessa Hudgens, we guess that means there aren't three but FOUR Vanessa Hudgens characters existing within this universe... Our minds are well and truly blown!
