Princess Sirivannavari honours her grandparents with new textiles book

To underline a commitment to the royal wishes of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother in preserving Thai cultural heritage, HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya recently launched Thai Textiles Trend Book Autumn/Winter 2022-2023 that celebrates local wisdom and unique Thai weaving handicrafts.

The book combines many types of fabric, colour selection, pattern design and future fashion trends and will be given to students, teachers, operators, artists, and those who aspire to be designers and want to preserve this Thai wisdom.

The production team comprising Kullawit Laosuksri, editor-in-chief of Vogue Thailand, designer Wisharawish Akarasantisook, fabric expert Thananrat Thanasedtakarn and many more specialists spent several years doing research.

The book launch was recently held at Iconsiam's Suralai Hall and featured an exhibition of Thai fabric and design trends. Princess Sirivannavari also presided over the symposium "Promoting And Developing Thai Fabric Image To International Market", which was organised by the Department of Cultural Promotion in collaboration with Srinakharinwirot University.

The exhibition was divided into three zones. The first showcased innovative designs from 12 fashion brands such as Sirivannavari Bangkok, Archive 026, Asava, Ek Thongprasert and Kloset using hand-weaving fabric from local communities.

The second zone was devoted to new shoes and bags from Thai and international brands with styles using colour tones that correspond to the trends in the book to encourage those who enjoy mixing and matching their outfits.

The last zone featured more than 30 pieces of handmade weaving fabric using natural colours from local communities and a variety of methods like brocade, knit, jok, embroilment, mudmee and patchwork.
