Kei Komuro, who is unofficially engaged to Princess Mako, the eldest daughter of Crown Price Akishino, intends to pay his mother's former fiance in an effort to resolve a long-standing money scandal, it has been announced.
The Komuro side intends to "resolve the issue after thoroughly discussing it with the former fiance and obtaining his understanding," Komuro's lawyer said Monday.
Komuro, 29, had been having talks with the former fiance from May 2019, but they are currently stalled, the lawyer stated. Komuro's side released a statement on the situation on Thursday, seeking to move the matter forward.

Komuro's mother is said to have received about 4 million yen from her former fiance. However, the lawyer said they would not specify the amount Komuro will pay the ex-fiance.
Komuro has told Princess Mako of his intention to pay the former fiance, according to the lawyer.
Komuro is expected to graduate from Fordham University's law school in the United States in late May, and plans to take the bar exam in New York State. It is not yet decided when he will return to Japan, the lawyer said.
