Princess Eugenie's 'lovely' royal moment with son August that new baby will be denied

The royal family will be no doubt celebrating the news that Princess Eugenie will be welcoming a second child later this year.

The 32-year-old was revealed to be pregnant in a traditional statement from Buckingham Palace - as well as by announcing the news on her personal Instagram account.

To reveal her pregnancy, she posted an adorable photo with her son August, who is almost two, as the toddler was seen kissing his mum's baby bump.

But despite the happy news, it is also likely to be somewhat bittersweet for Eugenie, her husband Jack Brooksbank and the rest of the royal family.

That's because Eugenie's new arrival will be the first of the Queen's great-grandchildren to be born since her death last September.

In fact, since August's arrival on February 9, 2021, much has changed for the royals - with the deaths of not only the Queen but Eugenie's late grandfather Prince Philip in April 2021.

August's full name is August Philip Hawke Brooksbank - and his name pays tribute to the late Duke of Edinburgh, who died just weeks after Eugenie welcomed her son.

In a documentary in September 2021, Eugenie revealed August got to meet Philip shortly before he passed away.

Holding back the tears, Eugenie explained: "We named August, August Philip because grandpa has been such a huge, inspiring character in my life.

"I brought little August to come and meet him and told him that we had named him after him and it was such a lovely moment.

"We were very lucky to do that."

It is unknown if Eugenie and Jack's new arrival is a boy or a girl - however, the baby will be born 13th in line to the throne and will be a plain Miss or Master.

He or she will also be born in the coronation year of their great uncle, King Charles and is a third grandchild for Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.

Eugenie and Jack wed in a glittering ceremony in the gothic surroundings of St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, in front of royal and celebrity guests in October 2018.

The princess, the daughter of the Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York, is close to her cousin Prince Harry, whose autobiography caused ructions this month when he laid bare his fraught relationships with the King and the Prince of Wales.

Mr Brooksbank, 36, has worked as a European brand director of Casamigos Tequila, co-founded by the actor George Clooney. He met Eugenie through mutual friends while on a ski trip to Verbier.

Eugenie is a director at the contemporary art gallery Hauser & Wirth in London. She is patron of several charities including the Elephant Family, the Teenage Cancer Trust, the Coronet Theatre and the European School of Osteopathy, and also founded the Anti-Slavery Collective charity.
