Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank are "very pleased'' to announce that they are expecting a baby in early 2021, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.

A tweet from the Royal Family account said: "Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in early 2021.

"The Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York, Mr and Mrs George Brooksbank, The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are delighted with the news."

The couple married on 12 October 2018, in a ceremony at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, where the Duke and Duchess of Sussex also held their ceremony.

Princess Eugenie, 30, wore a Peter Pilotto gown featuring a folded neckline and a low back that revealed scars from an operation she had at 12 years old to correct her scoliosis.

The wedding was attended by various A-list celebrities, among them Demi Moore, Naomi Campbell and Robbie Williams.

The cost of the event, estimated at £2 million at the time, was criticised by some as it was fronted by the taxpayer, despite Princess Eugenie not being a working royal.

Labour MP Chris Williamson said at the time that he believed her father, Prince Andrew, should pay instead.

Princess Eugenie and Mr Brooksbank first met during a skiing holiday in Verbier, Switzerland, when she was 20 years old and he was 24.

The couple announced their engagement in January 2018, becoming engaged while travelling in Nicaragua.

Princess Eugenie of York, as she is formally known, is 10th in line to the throne after her sister Beatrice and father, the Duke of York. She is the sixth grandchild of Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh.

In 2018 the couple moved from St James’s Palace to Ivy Cottage at Kensington Palace.

The couple has not yet announced a due date for their baby.
