Princess Diana superfan who founded memorial group blasts Prince Harry as a 'disgrace'

A Princess Diana superfan who founded a national memorial group for the late princess has blasted Prince Harry as a "disgrace".

Jo Dobson, 80, has been left outraged after announced their plan to "step back" as senior royals.

Mrs Dobson, from Hucclecote, Gloucestershire, founded The Diana Circle with late husband Ken and the group has 200 diehards who aim to keep the princess's memory alive.

But Mrs Dobson believes Princess Diana would be turning in her grave at her son's actions.

She said: "It's a disgrace. He's broken the monarchy.

"Diana would never have left this happen.

"I've had members of the circle from all over the country phoning me and asking 'what are we going do?'."

Some observers say Harry's determination to forge his own path, together with his wife Meghan , is similar to his mother's.

But Mrs Dobson suggests it is his brother Prince William who is doing more to honour her legacy.

However, she also thinks time may be up for the Royal Family as an institution in its current form.

She said: "Let him go his own way, we would be better off financially without them anyway, but I think it is dreadful the way they have carried on.

"The Royal Family has to change, it's in trouble. Look at Prince Andrew. It's not who you are, it's what you are, and they have got big problems.

"Ask young people today what they think of the Royal Family and they don't care."

Prince Andrew, Prince Harry's uncle, has also stepped back from royal duties after facing scrutiny for his friendship with the convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

On Monday, the Queen issued a statement regarding the Sussexes' immediate future, agreeing to a "period of transition" for the couple but saying she would have preferred them to remain as full-time working royals.

And Mrs Dobson thinks Prince William and his wife the Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, better represent the future.

She said: "They are wonderful and they are keeping Diana's memory alive.

"Kate is a proper lady, Meghan is an actress.

"Harry is so far down the line of succession that he's not bothered and that's why he's done this."

In a statement, the Queen said talks , which also involved the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cambridge, had been "very constructive".

"My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan's desire to create a new life as a young family," she said.

"Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.

"These are complex matters for my family to resolve, and there is some more work to be done, but I have asked for final decisions to be reached in the coming days."
