Princess Diana's statue was unveiled but now people can't agree on it

The Princess Diana memorial statue was unveiled yesterday in a ceremony held at Kensington Palace.

Designed by sculptor Ian Rank-Bradley, the statue shows Diana surrounded by three children - which symbolises the 'universality and generational impact' of her work.

It was uncovered on what would have been her 60th birthday by her sons, Prince William and Harry, in their first public appearance together since the Duke of Edinburgh's funeral in April.

However, the statue has split public opinion as people took to social media to air their views on what they think about it.

Some thought the figure, that was supposed to reflect Diana's "warmth, elegance and energy", was a touching tribute to her life.

On Twitter, @HonestMum tweeted: "Moving moment and beautiful sculpture."

@BarbSabran added: "A wonderful tribute to a beautiful woman who is greatly missed and we all know, gone too soon."

However, many people were not quite so praising of the statue, including TV personality, Lorraine Kelly.

The 61-year-old presenter admitted: "Can I just say, I don't really like it."

"I don't know what you think, but I don't really like the outfit. What I do like is the strength, she looks very strong. I just don't think it does her justice."

Other users took aim for how the statue did not bear any resemblance to the late Princess.

Gordon Baxter tweeted : "Dunno who paid for the Statue of #Diana but if it was me I’d be asking for my money back. Looks nothing like her."

Another user, Jane added: "I don’t want to sound harsh but does anybody think that the #DianaStatue actually looks like her?"
