Princess Diana once described reality of posing for photos just hours after birth

The "will she/won't she" guessing game of whether Meghan Markle will pose with her newborn shortly after giving birth was recently put to rest.

As for the verdict? It's a firm "no" to following the Duchess of Cambridge's polished example.

Harry and Meghan issued a statement which basically said they would be doing things privately and in their own time - something which extends to introducing Baby Sussex to the world.

While this is a disappointment to many, there are plenty of people (of which a large number have experienced childbirth) who agree that the idea of getting gussied up hours postpartum and facing - literally - the whole world is utter madness.

Why Meghan Markle has been urged to not pose for royal baby pics at her hospital

The Duchess of Cambridge managed it admirably, as did the Princess of Wales before her.

But while Kate will probably never publicly discuss it, Diana did - and she was searingly honest about the reality of attending such a high-profile photocall.

Her comments are likely to only fuel the argument that as "traditions" go, this one is a little harsh.

But it's a "no" from Meghan (Getty Images)

What Prince George is like at school - and his pals have adorable nickname for him

In the book  Call Me Diana  by Nigel Cawthorne, Princess Diana describes the moment she introduced Prince William to the world back in 1982.

"When I left the hospital, I could barely put one foot in front of the other. My stitches were killing me. It was such a strain to stand there and smile even just for a few minutes.

Meghan Markle happy to hire 'manny' for baby Sussex - with £70k salary and car

"As soon as the car disappeared around the corner out of sight of the photographers, I burst into tears."

You'd have to have a heart of stone to not feel for the new mum who had to deal with that.

Yet despite the toll it took, Diana did it all again just two years later following Prince Harry's arrival.
