Princess Cruises launches staycations as it cancels UK cruises abroad until September

Princess Cruises has cancelled sailings from the UK until September amidst ongoing uncertainty in travel during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The cruise line has cancelled sailings from Southampton on Sky Princess, Regal Princess, and Island Princess until September 25.

Passengers who are affected by cancellations will be offered the option to be moved to an equivalent cruise in 2022, or opt for future cruise credit. If there is no equivalent cruise, they will automatically receive a refundable future cruise credit which can be used on any cruise sailing by December 31, 2022.

Those who would prefer to request a full refund must do so by April 15 through an online form or they will automatically receive the cruise credit. You can find out more on princess.com.

Princess is still looking to operate some sailings in the meantime with a series of cruises around the UK "departing in late summer" onboard Regal Princess and Sky Princess.

There will be a range of short breaks and week-long sailings departing from Southampton, although currently there are no further details on what the itineraries could entail. These sailings will be available to UK guests only.

It's similar to the move by P&O Cruises which has cancelled all international sailings until September, but also plans to offer some UK sailings for the summer months.

At the time of writing the Foreign Office continues to advise against cruise ship travel during the pandemic, and there are ongoing travel restrictions around the world.

As a result, cruise lines have either cancelled sailings or temporarily suspended their operations - we have a guide to when cruise lines plan to restart, with some hopeful for a return in June.

Boris Johnson offered holidaymakers a glimmer of hope when he announced England's lockdown roadmap, which includes possibly resuming travel from May 17 subject to a review by the government in April.
