Princess Charlotte 'very excited' to be starting school, says proud dad William

Starting big school can be a daunting experience for children, but according to the Duke of Cambridge his daughter wasn't feeling the first day nerves.

Princess Charlotte arrived at Thomas's Battersea this morning with her mum Kate, dad Prince William and big brother George.

She looked slightly shy, holding her mum's hand and hiding behind her arm at one point - but she seemed to take the whole thing in her stride.

The family were greeted by Helen Haslem, head of the lower school, and William was heard telling her: "She's very excited".

Ms Haslem shook Charlotte's hand and the little princess played with her ponytail before walking through the school's front door.

She looked adorable dressed in her brand new uniform, a navy and red jumper with a matching skirt. She was wearing white ankle socks and traditional black school shoes.

The Cambridges arrived at the school by car as other parents dropped off their children at the south London school.

Charlotte, four, has been attending Willcocks Nursery in Kensington since last January but she's now making the exciting jump to big school.

The four-year-old follows in the footsteps of big brother Prince George, who has been attending Thomas's Battersea for the past two years.

It's an extra special day for Kate as she was  forced to miss George's first day at school  in 2017.

The Duchess was pregnant with Prince Louis when George started at Thomas's and was suffering from   hyperemesis gravidarum , a severe and sometimes life-threatening illness which affects mums-to-be.
