Princess Charlotte's royal balcony tears explained - and how Kate Middleton comforted her

One of the biggest perks of being a royal is getting the best seats in the house for the Trooping the Colour flypast.

Thousands of people gather outside Buckingham Palace to see the Queen and her family on the balcony, and it's one of the few occasions that we get to see them all together.

But all the excitement got a bit too much for Princess Charlotte during the 2019, and she had to be comforted by her mum the Duchess of Cambridge after bursting into tears.

The little royal, who is fourth in line to the throne, was having a lovely time with her second cousins, looking down at the crowds and waving excitedly.

As the RAF planes flew over, she clapped excitedly and was seen saying: "Wow".

She also seemed to be enjoying a booklet about the celebrations with Savannah Phillips, and the two youngsters could be seen flicking through the pages.

Her brother George also had a book and was seen waving it over his head.

But there was a wobbly moment when Charlotte dropped the booklet and started crying, and needed a quick kiss and a cuddle from mum Kate.

And it worked a treat, and just a few minutes later she was all smiles again.

Meanwhile, Prince George was silenced by his ‘sassy’ cousin during the celebrations today.

The playful seven-year-old helped point out the planes to Charlotte in her special book and then showed her cheeky side by pretending to conduct the band performing the National Anthem before putting her hand over George's mouth as he sang.

The four-year-old prince appeared to giggle as he lent on his fist and watched the parade.

Royal fans were delighted at the scene and took to Twitter to praise Princess Anne's granddaughter.

One viewer said: "So sassy. They obviously have a really funny and sweet relationship."

Trooping the Colour is the Queen's official birthday celebration, and is a full ceremony will all the pomp and fanfare.

The 2019 event was the first attended by Prince Harry's wife, Meghan Markle following their Windsor wedding the year before.

The Queen, who recently had a successful eye operation to remove a cataract, watched the Trooping ceremony from a dais in Horse Guards and later inspected the lines of guardsmen in their scarlet tunics and bearskins.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge travelled from Buckingham Palace along The Mall to cheers from excited royal fans gathered in the famous London thoroughfare.

The Duchess of Cornwall and Duchess of Cambridge were in another carriage while a third carried Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, the Countess of Wessex and her daughter Lady Louise.
