Princess Charlotte, who recently turned six years old, is too young to wear a tiara at the moment.
But there is speculation about when she could opt to wear one in the future, which will be a ‘momentous occasion’ according to royal experts.
Historically, royal women, including the Duchess of Cambridge, have worn tiaras for the first time on their wedding day. But, as Express.co.uk reports, this isn't necessarily the case for women born into the Royal Family.
According to etiquette expert and former royal butler Grant Harrold, there are two types of women who can wear tiaras.
These are those who are married, and those who are born princesses.
This means Charlotte could opt to wear a tiara before her wedding day and, subsequently, before her mother Kate Middleton did.
Mr Harrold told Insider: “Traditionally, tiaras are a sign of marriage.
“So typically they could be worn by a bride on her wedding day, or after she is married, she can wear one to any white tie event.
"Single ladies don't typically wear tiaras, unless they are born into the Royal Family as a princess."
Kate was not born royal and married into the Royal Family in 2011.
On her wedding day, she was seen wearing the Cartier Halo Tiara, also known as the Cartier Scroll Tiara.
The diadem was loaned to the Duchess by Queen Elizabeth II.
The tiara was purchased by the Queen’s father, King George VI, for his wife, the Queen Mother, in 1936.
The Queen Mother then gave the gorgeous tiara to her daughter on her 18th birthday.
When Princess Charlotte one day steps out wearing her first tiara, she may honour her mother by wearing the Cartier Halo Tiara.
However, she could also opt to do as her great aunt Princess Anne.
Princess Anne wore a tiara prior to her wedding, and was spotted wearing the accessory for the first time when she was 17.
This might be a tradition Charlotte follows, to commemorate a landmark moment, such as her 18th birthday.
HELLO! Magazine's Online Royal Correspondent Danielle Stacey said: "While there is a possibility that we could see Princess Charlotte wear a tiara before marriage, like Princess Anne, it seems unlikely in this day and age.
“Members of the royal family no longer wear tiaras for public events such as film premieres or charity dinners.
“Tiaras are usually reserved for state banquets, the Queen's annual Diplomatic Corps reception and for Her Majesty, the State Opening of Parliament."
