Princess Charlotte beams on Commonwealth Games day out as Kate reveals her 'favourite' sport

Princess Charlotte was beaming as she was treated to a day out during the Commonwealth Games with mum Kate revealing her daughter's favourite sport.

Young Charlotte, seven, was mixing with a number of VIPs today before attending a programme that supports young athletes.

After arriving at SportsAid House in Birmingham, Charlotte shook hands with her hosts and was introduced to a number of top-class athletes as part of the Team England Futures programme, a partnership between SportsAid, of which the Duchess is Patron, Sport England, and Commonwealth Games England.

She then revealed that her favourite sport was gymnastics, with Kate adding: "Charlotte spends most of her time upside-down, doing handstands and cartwheels."

Charlotte was also encouraged by her parents to stick a medal to the medal board at the SportsAid house while the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took part in an interactive workshop where they learnt about nutrition and sleep in elite sport, the MailOnline reports.

Earlier today, Charlotte, William and Kate all soaked up the atmosphere inside Birmingham's Sandwell Aquatics Centre to watch some of the swimming heats as part of the Commonwealth Games.

It marked her first public outing without either of her brothers Prince George or Prince Louis.

She appeared to be enjoying the action first-hand and could be seen pulling a number of excitable faces and had a protective arm placed around her by Kate.

The royals were cheering and applauding alongside the crowd for England's 1,500m freestyle hopeful Luke Turley.

After rolling her eyes following a comment from her father, Charlotte then cracked a smile as Turley’s heat came to a close and appeared to enjoy the rapturous crowd.

The family were also spotted at the England vs India hockey match later on, although Charlotte seemed a little bored and held her face in her hands during some of the action.

Charlotte has been getting stuck into sports of late having appeared in a motivational message with dad William before the England took on Germany in the Women's Euros final on Sunday.

Before the Lionesses romped to a historical 2-1 win in front of a record-breaking crowd at Wembley, Charlotte wished them good luck in a heartwarming message.

Prior to the match, William said: “We both want to wish the Lionesses the best of luck for tonight.

“You’ve done amazing well in the competition and we are rooting for you all the way.”

Charlotte, at William’s side, said: “Good luck, I hope you win. Bye”.
