Princess Beatrice says it was 'honour' to wear Queen's dress as she shares wedding photos

Princess Beatrice said it was an "honour" to wear one of the Queen's dresses on her wedding day in her first public social media post in more than a year.

Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson's daughter married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in a low-key, secret ceremony in Windsor in July.

She has now made a rare social media post, sharing two photos from her big day and a sweet message thanking well-wishers for their kind messages.

The two professional snaps, part of the small collection released to the public, show the newlyweds leaving the chapel shortly after saying 'I Do' and standing with the Queen and Prince Philip.

She writes: "Thank you to everyone who has sent in and tweeted their best wishes for our special day in July.

"Edo and I are so excited to embark on this new chapter together."

In a second Tweet she added: "It was an honour to wear my grandmother’s beautiful dress on my wedding day, I hope many of you are able to visit the exhibition which is still open at Windsor Castle."

Unlike her sister, Princess Eugenie, who is active on social media, Beatrice rarely uses her official account.

However she does have a secret and private Instagram account, which she is understood to be more active on.

Beatrice rarely tweets, so fans were very excited to hear from her (@yorkiebea/Twitter)

The last time she tweeted was in September last year, when she announced her engagement to Edo.

She shared the official statement from Buckingham Palace alongside one of their engagement snaps.

She wrote: "I'm so excited to announce my engagement to Edo."

Beatrice broke her silence on the wedding last month, when she described her special day as "so much fun".

She also shared a photo of her with her grandparents, the Queen and Prince Philip (Getty Images)

Announcing the winners of the Forget Me Not Children's Hospice's Kids Summer Art Competition, she commented on one of the drawings which showed the charity's mascot, Russell the Bear, at a wedding.

Praising runner up Chloe's entry, Beatrice said: "I mean, Chloe, Russell Bear at a wedding. Do you think this might be my wedding?

"Because I had the chance to get married this summer and it was so much fun."

She went on to make a sweet joke about her wedding dress, a stunning vintage gown she borrowed from her grandmother, the Queen.

She said: "But I'm not sure if I looked as smart as Russell Bear does in his outfit."

Sarah, Andrew, Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank were among a small group of guests who attended Beatrice and Edo's wedding.
