Princess Beatrice has 'most attractive' royal smile according to dentists

With cameras pointed at them whenever they go out on official engagements, we are used to seeing Royal Family members smiling a lot. Now, dentists have gotten together to determine which member of the family has the "most attractive smile".

Taking the crown - excuse the regal and dental pun - is none other than Princess Beatrice. While she is only 10th in line to the throne, ExpressDentist.com have ruled that her smile had a score of 9.09 out of 10.

This put her way in front of her younger sister Princess Eugenie, who was second on 7.27. Finishing in third place was the Meghan Markle, with the Duchess of Sussex scoring 6.82.

The Duchess and Duke of Cambridge complete the top five with tallies of 5.91 and 5.45 respectively while Prince Charles is sixth on 4.09. Prince Harry and Princess Anne claim joint-seventh spot on 3.63 each ahead of the Queen on 2.72 and Prince Edward in 10th on 1.36.

The study was based on a computer vision algorithm to "approximate the geometric golden ratio of each Royal Member’s smile and provided a whiteness ranking for each member’s teeth based on RGB colour estimates". ExpressDentist explained: "A normalised rank was then calculated based on both the golden ratio approximation and the teeth whiteness-rating."

They added: "The inherent face variability from a multitude of confounding factors including varying expressions, illuminations and poses increase entropy within our model. The relative impact of such factors is controlled and mitigated through strict photo selection criteria ensuring a standardised sample of up to six images per member.

"An accurate facial landmarking algorithm identified prominent facial features that served as anchor points from which to calculate facial geometric ratios. Subsequently, ratios of anthropometric facial landmarks were then used to approximate the geometric golden ratio of each image. Each member’s golden ratio approximation was then determined as the average ratio across all samples for that member."
